Specifically curated design pieces with a high level of quality was the name of the game for Theresa + Behrod when they began planning their brunch wedding at Millwick in Downtown LA. T didn’t want decor that was too busy or over-the-top. With the help of Sugarplum & Co she selected everything with intention, instead going for what she calls “Minimal Extravagance”. Simple flower varieties designed on a grand scale, a minimalist naked cake overflowing with fruit and a $500 wedding dress with an elaborate lace pattern. These are some examples of the juxtaposition of these two styles. One thing’s for sure- it works!!
T shares:
I wanted to ensure the day felt like a fall wedding in Los Angeles without any truly traditional elements or textures…from the cake to floral design and rental items I wanted to evoke fall feeling, bountiful abundance while still letting the simple elements of each piece standalone.
Let’s take a look through the lens of The Beloved Photo and enjoy all the magic!
Bridal Style
It’s almost as if the BHLDN “Sansa” gown was made just for T! How stunning does she look with hair, makeup, and hairpiece by Nikki English and Tory Burch shoes? Here’s what she shares about scoring the perfect gown for her laid-back brunch wedding:
My dress was actually a critical piece in aligning the direction of the days style. I actually bought it on sale, online at BHLDN without ever trying it on. My dad said it was only $500 with a worst case scenario being I’d have to return it. Fortunately it ended up fitting perfectly and the only alterations were taking the hemline up by 2/3” all around and reconstruction of the lace overlay.

Sweet First Look
T wasn’t the only one stylin’ on wedding day! B looked handsome and dapper in Vitarelli attire and Anthony Veer shoes.
Tropical Wedding Flowers
Rogue & Fox Floral created a whole mood for T + B’s ceremony space. They selected interesting and unique tropical flowers, giant palm leaves, and grasses. Here’s what T shared about her florist:
When we spoke, Drew shared that her teams inspiration was derived from ebb and flow of large tropical pieces. She knew she wanted to design something grand and magical, yet she followed the direction of the grand palms, dates, and bamboo and let them shape a unique story.
Celebrating Women of Color
For their brunch wedding, it was important to T to seek out women-owned businesses and celebrate the women of color who are succeeding in creative fields. Wedding officiant, Sabrina Moss, is one of those incredible women. T shares more about her amazing vendor team:
One extremely important factor in all of our vendor selection was employing women of color. As a black woman, my goal was to feel like our day was primarily sourced via black women creatives. In the instances where that wasn’t the care I prioritized women owned businesses and POC owned businesses which ultimately left us with ~90% of our vendors fitting in those categories.
Sealed with a kiss!
The Newlyweds
Brunch Wedding Reception
T + B embraced the lush plant life in their wedding venue and decorated their brunch wedding space with luxe fabrics and tropical florals.
La Pinata Party provided linens and tabletop rentals for the reception.
The attention to detail went all the way to their guest favors. T + B had O Soy Candles create custom vegan candles for each guest. Cedarwood Vanilla sounds amazing, right??
Brunch Wedding Bites
Fundamental Events catered T + B’s wedding day and we’re over here dreaming of the amazing spread!
We’ve attended so many weddings with the usual suspects in terms of food so we scrapped the whole thing and went straight to a brunch menu: waffle bar w/ ricotta, dulce du lèche, Nutella; beer, wine, and mimosa bar with the appropriate accoutrements; plus eggs, bacon, breakfast potatoes and a nice spinach salad.
What a cake!!! Mwokaji Cakery created this amazing confection overflowing with caramel glaze and fresh fruit!
Congratulations Theresa + Behrod!! The GWS team is wishing you both the very best!
