Bring on the color and the drama! Mindy + Josh weren’t afraid to let their creativity run wild when they planned their greenhouse wedding at Dos Pueblos Orchid Farm. Loving so many design and architecture styles gave them a huge pool of style to draw from. With the help of Wild Heart Events, they created a jewel-tone and boho fusion of laid-back California cool, Mediterranean warmth, and unexpected architectural details.
M shares:
We are both born and bred Southern Californians, so we wanted to highlight all that we love about where we live, from dried grasses and beachy VW buses to feel-good ambiance and ocean-meets-mountain views. Visiting Dos Pueblos made us feel nostalgic for the California we grew up with. We also love art and architecture and mixing juxtaposing styles and colors to create something soft, but edgy.
Kindred Weddings was there to capture each stunning detail. Ready to take a look?
Jewel-tone Floral
Going Steady Studio brought so many different colors, shapes and varieties of florals into the wedding day designs. It’s definitely a feast for the eyes! You can’t go wrong with orchids, sweetpea, anthurium, dahlias and pampas grass!
Bride + Groom Style
M + J’s wedding day attire was full of classical elegance. We are loving the delicate floral details on M’s Carolina Herrera gown! She shares all about the experience of finding the perfect dress:
I found my dress at the second shop I visited. When I first saw the dress, I considered it but decided to not try it on, thinking that it was too busy and not the simple style I was looking for. But then my brother brought it over to me, so I gave it a try. All three of us loved the dress and agreed it was very me after all. When I was a kid, I used to doodle tons of flowers. This dress — in all its elegant glory — reminds me of that. I think this is part of the wedding planning that I really nailed. Plus, the numerous hand-sewn lace flowers inspired us to go wild with florals.
All The Color
M’s bridal party nailed the color and the energy of the day in their mismatched jewel-tone attire. With hair by Style Me Kristi and makeup by Rebecca Casciano, they’re ready to celebrate!
Look at all of this floral decadence!!!
Sweetest Ceremony
Talk about a view! You can’t get better than this!
The ceremony. Seeing so many loved ones from near and far — and from different corners of our lives — in one place, beaming smiles directed at us, is as special as they all say. My (Mindy’s) 96-year-old great aunt was the first person I saw as I approached the aisle; we had been so nervous about whether she would be able to make it.
Our dear friend Megan wrote us the most moving, exceptional speech and hearing it for the first time even pumped me up for our union! Sharing our vows was so special; I highly recommend writing your own and putting some effort into it.
Processional: Groom and Wedding Party: “Everywhere”- Fleetwood Mac; Bride: “Dream a Little Dream of Me”- The Mamas & The Papas
Recessional: “Islands in the Stream,” Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers
First Dance: “We’ve Only Just Begun,” The Carpenters
Greenhouse Wedding Reception
At GWS, we love a good greenhouse wedding! Here are some other Cool Greenhouses to Get Married at in the United States!
M + J say that the Avenue Twelve rattan furniture at their reception was inspired by their Israeli parents and the Mediterranean culture they grew up in. It totally captures the vibes and sets the mood for the party.
Party Pleasers provided the other warm and inviting furniture rentals.
How cute is this escort card display made from acrylic signs and glass bottles?? We see a DIY in your future!
Jewel-tone Tablescapes
The floral beauty continued for M + J in their architectural and Ikebana-inspired tablescapes. Hostess Haven provided gorgeous blush and mauve tabletop rentals while La Tavola Fine Linen provided these gorgeous gauze runners!
How cute is this ringed paper menu? So unique and creative!
Don’t feel like you must do all the things. We have no regrets about skipping paper invites, engagement photos, party favors, cake (ice cream sandos instead!) or wedding traditions that didn’t resonate with us.
We had exactly the wedding we wanted. We splurged on the best-in-class planner and designer, Jaime at Wild Heart Events, who organized/executed/elevated our visions, always had the most encouraging attitude, recommended amazing vendors and negotiated some truly great prices for us! Seriously — don’t skimp on your planner. A professional planner has contacts and cache in the industry, and his or her sway and expertise can make things happen for you.
A Happily Ever After
With all of the wedding craziness, M has another big piece of advice for couples out there!
I also recommend starting a meditation practice if you don’t have one. There are so many moving parts to wedding planning, and if you’re someone who likes to finish projects far in advance like me, you will struggle because vendor timelines don’t work that way; they have so many other weddings to execute before yours. Cancellations, last-minute guest additions, weather issues, mistakes and other unexpected events will also happen, so don’t be too *married* to anything, and trust that the overall thing you planned will come through and be as great as you and your partner!
Congratulations Mindy + Josh! Your wedding was stunning! From the jewel-tone palette and floral-covered wedding dress, to the Moroccan inspired reception decor and lush florals, we’ve loved every minute of it! All the best from the GWS team!
