If your parents got married like ours did, it was in someone’s basement with big hair statements, clashing fabrics and many shades of brown. What’s crazy is, so many trends from the ’70s are looping back through (as they do), and inspiring modern day weddings in major ways!
The designers at Clover Event Co share their hopes for this super ’70s wedding inspiration: We wanted to create a chic and modern version of our parents’ ’70s basement. With a palette of golden mustard, burnt orange and pale pink and textures like velvet, dark wood and brass, we brought this retro palette into a modern wedding design.
In order to bring you back to that special ’70s basement, Afrik Armando told the story through photography:
’70s Stationery
Can you dig these paper goods and signage by Two Paper Dolls? The retro fonts and color palette used are rad – but the place cards written on vinyl records are so, so fun!
Retro Chic Basement Vibes
Cant you handle this velvety ’70s lounge?! The lounge by Allaire Rentals includes orange + yellow velvet couches with pale pink accent pillows and a mid-century modern coffee table. Behind the lounge is a rad ’70s inspired ceremony backdrop, created by House of Catherine, with the grooviest wallpaper ever!
Sweet, sweet baby floral appliques on this wedding dress from Van Cleve Bridal. It’s certainly not the dress our Moms wore in the ’70s, but we so appreciate the modern bridal twist – especially those flower appliques.
Floral Applique Wedding Dress
This warm + oh-so-seventies color palette feels soft and romantic. Florals, by Twisted Willow, created a hanging floral installation over the head table that ran along the center of the reception setup, and used vessels that compliment the mid-century retro chic vibe.
If only our basement looked like this…
Retro Specialty Cocktails
These will make you thirsty! This cocktail menu, created by Spirit Forward, is reminiscent of the ’70s, featuring a Singapore Sling + Harvey Wallbanger all served in custom glassware, finished off with retro cocktail stirrers!
This record lineup reminds us of all the vinyls we have stored in our basement. Solid gold!
Solid Gold Reception
Carnations are making a major comeback, and this hanging floral installation is reason #1 of many!
Groovy vibes from these long serpentine tables covered with velvet mustard linens from Nüage Designs. The tabletops are finished off with wood chargers, white mid-century modern flatware + amber goblets from White Glove Rentals. With the pale pink taper candles down the center of the table, it’s really putting together a modern aesthetic!
The Long And Winding Table
The pops of soft pink with the warm, seventies color palette really gives this wedding inspo a modern spin.
Retro Wedding Cake With Major Movement
All this dark anthurium is giving us life! We love the colors against the velvet marigold linen.
This artful creation by Park Ave Cake has so much movement it’s unbelievable! As a matter of fact, we’re hoping ’70s wedding styles just keep creeping back in, because we love it all. If you’re all about peace + love, check out this Woodstock inspired wedding!
