If you’re planning a small wedding, don’t skimp on the cake! An intimate or micro wedding (or an elopement!) still deserves a sweet ending, right? Good news — many bakeries are totally willing to go with the flow and are offering small wedding cakes that are just as gorgeous and delicious any 5-tiered cake. Curious about what a wedding cake looks like on a smaller scale? That’s what we’re here for.
We rounded up a few of our favorite small wedding cakes (and some desserts) from weddings, elopements, and inspired shoots on GWS, as well as ideas from bakers we love. Scroll on for a taste!
Textured Peach + Flower Cake
cake by Nicole Bakes Cakes
Hosting a digital party? Nicole Bakes Cakes has a solution for that!
I’ve been offering a 6-inch cutting cake or baby two-tier cakes (6 and 4 inch) since there are no receptions or open food areas. I have been boxing cupcakes individually so each guest can have a sweet treat to enjoy while social distancing. I also delivered 10 individual 5-inch cakes all over LA to family members of a couple holding a Zoom reception — their family got to watch + celebrate with cake! Couples are getting creative and I LOVE it!

Sweets on Sweet Buttercream
cake by Earth & Sugar
Ceremony now, party later? Earth & Sugar has a solution for that:
As far as COVID goes, the only thing that has really changed is the sizing of the cakes. As couples are rescheduling their dates, they are still looking to say their vows on their original date and ask us to provide them with a ceremony cake. These cakes have been smaller, on the scale of single and two-tier cakes.

Single-Tier Painter’s Palette Cake
cake by XO cakery
The team at XO cakery is still making wedding cake dreams come true — just on a smaller scale:
XO has been working with our brides to accommodate in whatever capacity we can. We are holding our business with integrity as no one saw anything like this coming. For those who do still want to get married but have to abide by smaller guest list rules, we have kept their original cake designs but made them significantly smaller to achieve the new (smaller) guest servings.

Golden Buttercream Floral Cake
cake by Sweet Heather Anne
Sweet Heather Anne has some amazing creative solutions for weddings during COVID:
COVID-19 has been incredibly tough on couples trying to plan a 2020 wedding. Many are opting to do a small celebration this year and save their larger party for after the pandemic. To help couples celebrate on a smaller scale, we have expanded our line of intimate wedding cakes in our online shop. We partnered with University Flower Shop to offer a variety of options including cake and bouquet sets that can be customized with your wedding colors. We’ve also joined the Petite Wedding Collective, a group of vendors offering a unique micro wedding experience in the Metro Detroit area. We know that this is an incredibly stressful time for couples, and our goal is to make it as easy as possible to do something special to mark their wedding day.

How is Nine Cakes creating wedding cakes in the time of COVID?
Still just as special and beautiful as their original wedding cakes, just on a smaller scale for a more intimate gathering. I think if people have already decided to gather with their close friends and family, they’re fine to share and serve cake slices.
