Don’t you just love vow renewals?! Even more than the wedding day itself, a vow renewal celebrates love, commitment and a lifelong journey together. We are seeing more and more couples celebrating milestones with striking and inspirational moments like this 5 year vow renewal in Queenstown, New Zealand. Bringing in some of the trendiest desert tones of rust, taupe, gold and bronze, Colour Me Happy Weddings sought to bring out the beauty of the rugged landscape and the rad, individualistic styles of the couple. Darik + Cara, from The Chatwins have already been through a lot together in just 5 short years. The couple’s photographer, Blake Hogge, shares this about their special choice to celebrate the milestone:
This shoot is for the boho at heart, the adventure couples who want to renew their vows in a beautiful place. I think this shoot shows that couples can still pronounce their love for each other in their own unique way that they might have not done for their wedding day. This shoot shows how intimate settings allow you to focus on what you’re doing- and that is sharing an experience of a lifetime together.

Attire for a 5 Year Vow Renewal
A vow renewal is a time to throw caution to the wind and choose fun and unique attire that truly speaks to your personality. C told us that on their wedding day, she chose to keep things classic and timeless, but for this vow renewal, she wanted to embrace all things trendy! We’ve got to admit, this Rue De Seine ‘Tuscon’ gown makes her look like a total wilderness goddess.

On the same lines as attire, it’s go big or go home with the florals! The Vase Queenstown captured the warm color palette beautifully. So much fabulous fluff going on here and in the ceremony space decor!
The Perfect 5 Year Vow Renewal Decor
C + D chose this sweet and peaceful spot to exchange vows and reflect on all the blessings and joys that married life has brought them so far.
The beauty of Queenstown was absolutely stunning. Being on the crooked little dock, on the still water, just the two of us & reading our vows to each other was so serene and a moment I never want to fade from my memory. We don’t get a lot of alone time these days so having the entire trip, let alone those moments on the dock to really soak everything in was so special.
Of course we had to get the details about their first five years as husband and wife!
The first five years have been a wild ride! We’ve traveled, lived in many different states & are now adding baby number five to the family. We’ve definitely grown a lot individually and as a couple. Having so many babies so quickly has shown us what a good team we are and how much we are capable of. We don’t let it slow us down!

Couple Photos on the Hills
Seriously cannot get over the beauty of this landscape! It looks unreal!!
We can’t forget to call out D’s PERFECT Banana Republic suit. Seriously, that color… He paired it with Taft shoes while C wore Matisse bridal booties.
Your team is so important! I shared my dream & vision with Blake, Gypsy & Stacy & they completely went above and beyond to bring it to life. Look at their work, the way the photographer captures other couples, the style of the design & florals & find people who match the vibes you want for your event. Don’t be afraid to be a little out there or follow trends you are loving! With our wedding, I was cautious of being too “trendy” and tried to keep things more traditional as to not go out of style but this time I did exactly what I wanted & loved in the moment & could not be happier with the results. It was a dream!
Ready to take on more of life’s big adventures!!
Some final words from C + D!
If you’re thinking about planning a vow renewal, DO IT! So much has changed since we first got married & it was so nice to be able to really think about and appreciate all we do for one another and how much our love has grown with time. It’s important in any relationship to make time for yourselves & this was the perfect getaway and opportunity to really focus on us.
