Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s wedding is widely acknowledged as one of the most extravagant celebrity weddings of all time, and Priyanka pulled out all the stops for her wedding dresses. Yes, dresses.

For the Hindu ceremony, Priyanka wore a Red lehenga by Sabyasachi Mukherji. “I always knew I wanted a red traditional silhouette for my wedding, but Sabya brought in incredible French embroidery to the mix,” Priyanka said of the dress. “And with incredible jewellery and a western-inspired veil, it was just such an amalgamation of who I am!”

A celebrity wedding dress favourite, Priyanka opted for a custom gown by Ralph Lauren. for her Christian ceremony. 7. Hailey Baldwin

Hailey Baldwin wore not one, but three wedding dresses when she and Justin Bieber tied the knot in 2019. But it was her gorgeous lace gown by Virgil Abloh for OFF WHITE which really blew her fans away.

8. Lady Diana Spencer

5,500 global monthly searches

This was a wedding that took place in the vastness of St Paul’s Cathedral and Diana obviously felt she had to have a dress that would hold its own in the enormous interior.

Her wedding dress took up most of the interior of the Cinderella-like glass coach that carried her to the ceremony and the 25ft train had to be unfolded by her bridesmaids on the steps of the cathedral. While she looked beautiful on her wedding day, we think it was a dress that reflects the excesses of 80’s fashion – with big shoulders, ruffles and can’t-miss embellishments.

As she matured and developed her own look, Diana started wearing more fitted, elegant dresses by Catherine Walker, Azagury and Armani and looked particularly good in column style dresses, which suited her athletic figure. We think she’d have looked better in a wedding gown more like this but still, she was only 20 when she married and hadn’t developed her own style and confidence.

9. Kim Kardashian

Dita Von Teese

If you’re contemplating wearing a coloured wedding gown, then burlesque artiste Dita Von Teese should be your inspiration – She wore a full-skirted gown in a rich purple designed by Vivienne Westwood. The dramatic colour showed off the bride’s creamy skin and dark hair to perfection.

Although it’s not a traditional-style wedding dress, it created a real sense of occasion and any bride would feel like a million pounds in a frock like this. If this is the route you want to take, check out names like Pronuptia, Ian Stuart and Vera Wang who make some fabulous frocks in unusual shades.

Queen Elizabeth II

There’s usually a collective sigh when everybody first sees the bride in her wedding gown and the British nation were all overwhelmed when they saw the Queen – then Princess Elizabeth – looking blissfully happy at her marriage to Prince Phillip in 1947.  Britain had just emerged from World War II and clothes rationing was still in place (even for the Royals), so the public had sent in their own clothing coupons to enable Princess Elizabeth to have the dress of her dreams.

Jessica Biel

Another trendsetter. Jessica looked like a classic bride – with one small difference. She chose a blush pink for her wedding gown by Giambattista Valli and we have to say, we loved it. It’s very bridal, very feminine but just with that accent of difference. If you don’t suit white or ivory then a pale pastel could be the way forward – we’re thinking blush pink like Jessica, or a pale blue?

Princess Margaret

According to bridal boutique owner Ellie Sanderson, the Royal Family generally get it right when it comes to classic wedding dresses. They don’t follow fashion but go for a timeless look. Look at the wedding dress of Princess Margaret from 1960 and you’ll have a perfect example of this. It was designed by couturier Norman Hartnell and created from silk organza.

Princess Margaret had a slight frame, which Hartnell understood and he kept the details on the frock to a minimum so that she wouldn’t look swamped. Life magazine called it ‘the simplest royal wedding gown in history’. Not such a bad thing, because you could wear it today without looking dated. If you want to see the dress, go along to the display of royal wedding dresses at Kensington Palace in London.

Kate Moss’s Wedding Dress

Kate has been around fashion long enough to know what suits her and we loved her unstructured wedding dress created by John Galliano. Kate herself described it as ‘Rock and Roll Gatsby’. Created from chiffon, tulle, lace and sequins, it moved beautifully and made Kate look like a Goddess. We loved it.
