What do you think of when you think of a ‘fairytale wedding?’ Everyone’s day dream might look a little different, but we’re almost positive none involve a grand, black wedding dress. Would you dare (it would be an unforgettably dramatic ceremony entrance)? What we love most about this inspo to come, is the edgy avant-garde twist on some old world romance with not one but two fairytale dresses.
Naomi from Bowties & Bouquets shares the vision behind this modern garden fairytale editorial: This editorial was inspired by old world elements, modern fairytales, avant-garde, contrasting elements and a black lace gown. Throughout the design and planning, we wanted to convey how a black lace gown can add drama, create a fairytale dream and not be dark or gothic.

Avant-Garde Meets Old World Fairytale
Pretty Written Things writes the script for this über elegant, old world invitation stationery suite. Colors and designs almost have a Dutch Masters vibe!
A Black Maggie Sottero Wedding Dress
Would you wear black to your wedding ceremony? This beautiful bride rocks two stunning Maggie Sottero gowns. Starting with this breathtaking black gown that definitely makes a powerful statement! Contrasting layers of tulle, 3D floral lace motifs, and Chantilly lace bring even more romantic drama to this avant-garde inspiration.
White + Green Organic Wedding Flowers
Artful and organic are words we’d use to describe this micro ceremony setup. A grounded floor arch crawls up beautiful glass etched windows. The florals, from Flowers By Lady Buggs, were inspired by garden greenery + beautiful luscious white garden roses.
A gorgeous look back. This bridal look is all about contrasting elements and avant-garde. She has a loose updo and soft peach lip to compliment the bold, black gown. The hair and makeup by E2Beauty was meant to create a soft and beautiful ‘beauty from within’ vibe. A crystal twig tiara from Blair Nadeau clearly crowns this bridal queen!
With regal undertones, this ceremony setup brings all the elegance we love in an English garden indoors. It’s all the dreaminess every fairytale-loving couple deserves!
Our groom is dressed in Friar Tux, featuring a hunter green velvet jacket + black pants. You know we’re all about velvet and elegant textures! Velvet adds the perfect touch of texture, and the rich color of hunter green pairs perfectly with the garden theme. Grooms deserve to look like a fairytale prince, too!
When a black dress brings major drama to the garden wedding…
Now for a reception out in the grass. The table has color tones of silver + gold to play into the contrasting food + textiles. Black tapered candles bring in the romantic color, and silver ornate chargers pair nicely with crystal glass + white plates. Tabletop decor from Cherished Rentals.
Another Fairytale Dress by Maggie Sottero for this Queen
Is it cold in here? This reception gown is a gorgeous Maggie Sottero cold shoulder, bishop-sleeve princess gown. If this dress doesn’t scream fairytale, we don’t know what would! A plunging neckline, beaded lace bodice, tulle skirt, lace motif details make it the perfect gown for garden wedding dancing. Whimsical, romantic + full of movement!
Grey Garden Wedding Cakes
High end vibes as we approach the sweeter portion of this garden wedding inspiration. An elevated dessert table features two beautiful grey cakes from M Cakes. Gold toned elements, hand painted macarons, French champagne, black tapered candles, assorted fruits and beautiful floral centerpieces round out this fairytale celebration.
