Dark versus Light. Soft versus Hard. Sweetness versus Seduction. This was the theme for this Swan Lake Inspired Styled Shoot that took place at Hycroft Manor in Vancouver, Canada. Wonderstruck Events shows us how to create two distinct looks: one, dark and sultry with a black-centered color palette, striking lines and bold design details- the second, soft and romantic with cream and blush tones, ruffled textures and classic ballerina vibes. They share:
Inspired by the film “Black Swan,” we wanted to create an editorial that was moody and romantic, with swoon-worthy details and striking bridal looks. In Swan Lake, the white swan is beautiful, but fragile and demure, whereas the black swan is malevolent, and effortlessly seductive. We designed the editorial with juxtaposition in mind: luxurious velvet linens paired with textured stoneware, gold accents intensified with black hardware. Although there are two sides to every story, we wanted to interweave the two narratives of Swan Lake into one visual story — one where beauty is exaggerated, imperfect, and unconventional.
Are you ready to see it all through the lens of Beige Weddings? Let’s go!
The Beauty Is in the Details
Papier Handmade crafted two invitation suites for this styled shoot. The first, seen above, ties in dramatic black accents for the black swan bride. The second, seen below, features a softer palette and more classical style for the white swan bride.
Feathered brows and a braided crown for the black swan, while the white swan sports romantic waves and rose-kissed makeup. The Love Team by Rita outdid themselves with these two distinct beauty looks. We also give accolades to styling assistant, Keira Seah, and beauty assistant, Leslie Chung for making sure the shoot came together without any issue!
Black Swan Inspired Wedding Dresses
Can you even have a ballet inspired wedding shoot without the tulle genius of Millia London? Here we get to see not one gown, but two! Which speaks more to you? This dramatic black tulle wedding dress, or the softer blush ruffled gown below?
White Swan Inspired
All the praise for the floral talents of Da Fiori Design! We love seeing shoots that allow the wedding vendors to showcase a wide range of talents. The team chose sleek and structured blooms for the black swan inspiration, and softer, garden blooms for the white swan.
This dress looks scrumptious with its layers and layers of blush tulle! If you’re loving these Millia London gowns, be sure to check out our Taylor Swift inspired wedding shoot that features three more of their dresses!
White Swan Inspired Wedding Details
How perfect is that tulle bow detailing on the Bella Belle bridal shoes?? The white swan is known for sporting classically beautiful details like that stunning Evorden ring featured in its blush Vel Weds ring box.
Dark Meets Light in the Reception Decor
The vendor team blended both white swan and black swan inspired decor for the tablescapes. Modern black tabletop rentals and furniture by Bespoke Decor, soft rose-toned linens from Camilia Supply, and old world ceramics by Anna Ceramics complete the look.
Those black and white marble candlesticks though…
Black Swan Inspired Wedding Cakes
Again, we’re lucky enough to get TWO gorgeously crafted wedding cakes from Cake by Nicole:
Cake by Nicole nailed the concept with her two creations. The first is a soft and delicate white cake with shards of fondant and bleached skeleton leaves, finished with a cascade of white skeleton hydrangeas. By contrast, the monochromatic black cake showcases a beautiful textured stone finish, adorned with black skeleton leaves.
Are you swooning over this old world vibe like we are?? Both the dark and the light details are so inspiring, that we’re not sure which side we’d choose in this Black Swan wedding shoot. What do you think? Are you team Black Swan or team White Swan? Let us know in the comments!
