A Selkie Dress for a Notley Abbey Wedding Inspired by the Bride’s Mexican Heritage

Ideas

Tom and Sandra married on 17th July this year at Notley Abbey in Aylesbury.

The bride, a digital creator over at @thesandraduran, looked magnificent in a a bespoke Selkie dress. She wove her Mexican roots throughout the day with touches including a sombrero and mariachi band.

The couple had actually already celebrated with a first wedding back in Mexico, and you get get a wonderful glimpse of that here. This was wedding number two, held in England so that the groom’s family could celebrate with the couple. And it was all captured beautifully by Suzy Elizabeth.

Veil, Shoes & Accessories

My bridal bow wedding veil was from a small business based in Oregon called TailoredTulle on Etsy.

My shoes were from Serpenti Apparel and my hair Accessories were pearl hair clips from Amazon.

My perfume was Killian Paris ‘Love, Don’t Be Shy’ and my earrings were from BHLDN.

My makeup artist was Gem Sutton – I love Gemma’s makeup style. I wanted something very ‘Charlotte Tilbury’. to enhance my face naturally – and she did just that.

A Selkie Wedding Dress

I wore a customised gown from Selkie Collection – it was the Ivory in Bloom bridal gown.

I’ve actually purchased so many gowns and dresses from them in the past and I really wanted to wear a gown from them on my wedding.

I’m very inspired in period movies, French style decor, Bridgerton, the colour pink of course and fairytale movies. I’m a hopeless romantic.

Photography

I really loved Suzy of Suzy Elizabeth Photography – she knew the venue already and I loved her work and editing style since the moment I discovered it.

How They Met

We met through the Bumble dating app, in New York City. Here is a blog post about how we met!

We dated for a little over two years, when he proposed while we were hiking in Sedona, Arizona.

Evening & Dancing

We danced to Elton John’s ‘Something About The Way You Look Tonight‘. We both are HUGE fans of Elton John and his music was one of the first thing we found out we had in common.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

It’s you and your partner wedding so HAVE FUN! We sometimes get so worried about go to everyone’s tables and do our “rounds” but weddings go by so fast.

If you can, let people come to you two as much as you can and dance away, have a drink, go check out the dessert table, bar or any other special installation etc. This night only happens once.
