A Glamorous, Blue Sequin Dress for a Celestial, 1930’s Inspired Wedding at St Pancras Renaissance Hotel

Ideas

It is my utmost pleasure today, to share the wedding of Sally and Rudy, a couple who have been together for twenty years.

Trainer Rudy wed carer Sally on 27 November 2021 at the magnificent St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London. Their 1930’s inspired wedding was a beautifully intimate and glamorous celebration, filled with a moody winter colour palette of blue, gold, burgundy and light pink, with touches of celestial inspiration, inspired by a moon picture in the hotel itself.

The bride wore the most fabulous blue sequin dress (and we have plenty more non-white / coloured wedding dress inspiration if you’re seeking it).

A 1930’s Inspired Wedding

Rudy’s Hawes & Curtis suit was inspired by the 1930’s, as was my evening dress. We had a celestial theme, inspired by artwork in our first choice of function room.

Ultimately, our first choice room was replaced by a far grander room, but our original vision remained. Our wedding planner and stylist was Laura Hillman.

We have used the Renaissance St Pancras Hotel before for various work functions and family celebrations. We love its gothic style and grandeur.

A Blue Sequin Dress

My dress was from Bombshell who were fantastic at picking out an outfit for an older bride who wanted the untraditional option. I wanted a non-white evening gown which was both stylish and comfortable.

My shoes were from SilkFred and I wore a diamanté, crescent moon hair accessory from Etsy.

Bridal Beauty

Jessica Hawkins did my hair and make-up.

My perfume was Jo Malone Honeysuckle & Davana, bought by my husband for the wedding day.

Our daughter wore a mini-dress from Silhouette London with Dolls Kill shoes.

The Ceremony

Our ceremony was led by Camden Registry office, and we exchanged hand-made rings.

We met each other at work in 2002 and have lived together for twenty years. We had been engaged since May 2021.

An Intimate Wedding Reception

Our celebration meal in the Smoking Room was unforgettable, and the fact it was a micro-wedding made the day feel intimate and highly exclusive.

The tiered, marbled cake had a subtle hint to the celestial theme, and was by Christina May Cake Design.

I met Sally at the hotel to view the room and got to know her style and preferences. Sally mentioned she liked moody, almost gothic-like styles and the room had a large moon picture inside, so I came up with the idea of including a celestial feel to their day to tie into the space. Sally had also selected the most gorgeous blue, sequinned dress, which fitted perfectly with this overall vision.

As the wedding was in November (and Sally also loves Christmas), we selected a winter colour palette, incorporating blue, gold, burgundy and light pink. The idea was to build the colour throughout their day, starting off with a lighter feel and ending with a wintery, candle-lit dinner with all the moody vibes.

Photography

We chose Jez Dickson Photography for his extensive experience and natural wedding shoots.

We didn’t want traditional photos and we felt in very safe hands. We enjoyed our photos being taken in St Pancras station – just the two of us.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

If possible, engage a wedding planner to take any planning stress away.

Enjoy the whole process as the actual day passes so quickly.
