This Whimsical Fairytale Wedding in Petaluma, California Was Full of Rich Multicultural Details

Planning

Isa + Andrew had big plans for their Bay Area community garden wedding venue.

With the help of the event designers and planners at Two Perfect Events, they’d curated their wedding vision into something so them: a whimsical garden party celebration inspired by all of the magic in Disney’s Tangled that was also a super meaningful celebration of the couple’s cultural identities.

Pastel pinks and purples made up the accent color palette. Cascading string lights would capture the glowy romance in Tangled. Countless creative Chinese, Indonesian, and Vietnamese details were carefully chosen to incorporate Isa + Andrew rich cultural heritage. And the plan was to do all this surrounded by the flowers of the community garden. But all the best wedding stories have a twist, and a little over a month before the big day, the flower-filled garden venue that they’d had booked for a year and a half canceled due to a water main break.

Everyone sprang into action, and after reaching out to over 100 venues and scouring the internet Isa + Andrew found Olympia’s Valley Estate. Every magical detail they had planned for the garden transferred beautifully to the dreamy, idyllic farm and event space.

Planner Natalie from Two Perfect Events totally captured the spirit of Isa + Andrew’s day when she said, “It is a beautiful example of how childhood wonder and nostalgia can define a theme and frame new beginnings with creativity, love, and whimsy.”

We are totally spellbound by every meaningful and magical detail of this wedding, and we’re so glad Hey Honey Photography was there catching every moment.

The First Look

Isa found her enchanting floral-appliqué-adorned Marchesa gown at The White Flower in San Diego, and those tulle cape sleeves were a custom creation! Love the way this dress completely captured the fairytale feel of the whole day.

The draping trees and greenery edging the pond made for an absolutely enchanting ceremony backdrop!

Some Moments Alone

Disney’s Tangled played a big role in the design concept of the wedding because it’s a super formative film for Isa, and this romantic post-ceremony boat ride was directly inspired by the boat ride scene in the movie!

Joyce Zhou Designs created Isa’s soft wavy half-up half-down hair look and her peachy, neutral makeup.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Consider this triangular trade-off where you can usually only prioritize two: budget, time, and expectations. There were some design concepts we loved (e.g. an Alice In Wonderland-inspired oversized paper floral display), but they were either out of our budget or would take too much time to DIY. In those cases, adjusting our expectations was the most feasible option.
And build in time just to be with each other. We were surprised by how much quiet alone time we had, and that protected our peace. If we could change anything, we would optimize for enjoying the moment! We thought we had time for things like multiple different portrait sessions, outfit changes, a private champagne pour, etc. but we actually didn’t have time, and it took away from enjoying the actual wedding and talking to our guests.
