The Bride Knitted Her Own Wedding Dress for this Intimate Wedding on a Vintage Streetcar

Planning

When Zoë + Owen first moved to Edmonton, Canada they went on a date to see a small bluegrass concert on the High Level Bridge Streetcar. They were falling in love with their new home city, and this total time machine of a vintage streetcar was beyond romantic. How fitting, then, that when they tied the knot they returned to the beyond-charming site of their first date in Edmonton and got married right there on the High Level Bridge Streetcar!

It was important to Zoë + Owen that their intimate wedding day be created completely out of handmade and vintage details, and our minds are totally blown by the fact that Zoë KNITTED HER OWN WEDDING DRESS. By hand. Without a pattern.

“From start to finish, this day was just so personal to the couple,” says photographer Kassia J. “The entire day felt like a love letter between the two of them, to each other, and to the city they love.”

“The dress was a massive undertaking,” says the couple. “Zoë does a significant amount of knitting but mainly Scandinavian style colour motifs. For the dress she decided to use Japanese style cable work with Shetland lace for the top and trim.” We LOVE that combo of different textures! Totally in awe that Zoë dreamed this up without a pattern.

“She finished the dress only three weeks before the wedding, although she was confident she was going to make the deadline!” Zoë + Owen say. “This was also the hardest part of our kind of tight timeline (8 months, got engaged in February) for the wedding.”

Owen’s blue suit is bringing so much rich color with the plaid vest adding a touch of vintage flair. Shop the Kentford Linen Silk Navy Suit from Indochino for a similar look!

We love to see dried floral bouquets like Zoë’s!! Such a perfect way to have a memento of your wedding day that you can keep for ages.

The First Look

Our Musical Choices

Processional: No need for a processional on the streetcar!

Recessional: No recessional either!

First Dance: "September" by Earth Wind and Fire. (We love that song and wanted something upbeat to show off our swing dancing.)
