Wedding Inspiration for an Intimate Wedding in Cornwall

Ideas

We love these cute photographs that our friend over Miss Bush shared recently. As ever when it comes to styling editorials, Miss Bush were on hand to supply some gorgeous bridal fashion, from both Jesus Peiro and Sophie et Voila.

The location was The Cornish Place – a very special venue for intimate weddings, that is nestled in twenty six acres of glorious Cornish countryside, only seven miles from both north and south coast beaches.

Words below are from Andi Freeman, of The Cornish Place.

Last year we licensed 7 outdoor areas here at at our Cornish retreat, to add to our existing indoor ceremony spaces. These ranged from a patch of lawn by the bar, to a cottage garden, to a flat area in a field at the top of a hill.

Despite the current controversy over styled shoots, the fact is that when I am talking to couples about their wedding, they reference photos they have seen of weddings or shoots at The Cornish Place for styling ideas.

Without any images of outdoor weddings, many couples find it hard to envisage how it would look when I wave my arm around the Barn garden for example and say ‘you could put flowers in the trees’! So now they can see!

Another factor was that as a tiny venue (or a venue for tiny weddings!) we are busier than ever, often finding that couples have cancelled their ‘big wedding’ for one reason or another in favour of running away together, often joined by just their close family or maybe a dog!

Although budget can be a factor, this tiny wedding often means they can throw a big more money at it, and truly indulge themselves, creating a luxury bubble in the Cornish countryside away from the real world.

Our weddings always include a stay in a luxury cottage here so they can have 3 or 4 days to truly relax with no one to please but themselves!

The final part of the inspiration was a retro Vogue print by Laurence Le Guay that I used when refreshing the décor in the Stables cottage. I couldn’t get out of my head how cool this could look in a field with a bride. When I spoke to Verity Westcott, our photographer about it, she totally got how it would work, so that gave us our strong shapes and luxury retro feel.

Verity is also dog mad, so this gave us an excuse to include our two dogs and to also create a spoof ‘dog wedding’ shot for April Fools Day.  Needless to say, some of our followers fell for it!

When looking for suppliers for the shoot, we went luxury. We stayed Cornish and local as much as possible, but having worked with Miss Bush several times before, she was my first thought for stylish wedding dresses with strong simple lines – the designs from Sophie et Voila and Jesus Peiro were perfect.

Jess from Tide The Knot came on board to pull my scattergun approach to styling together and we created the Dream Team. We kept the décor simple, except for the decadent flowers in bright colours and the retro banner. Add in pizza from our outdoor oven, and what’s not to love?!
