A Romantic Elopement in the Redwoods for This Roller Skating Bride + Groom

Planning

Rebecca + Mikul originally met through a mutual friend long ago but that’s not where this love story really begins. Years after first meeting, fate intervened when these two happened to roller skate past each other on Venice Beach.

“What started as a casual skate quickly evolved into an entire afternoon of gliding along the boardwalk, sharing stories over dinner, and ending with ice cream as we watched the sunset,” remembers the couple. “It was as if the universe whispered that we were meant to find each other again, and from that day forward, we’ve been inseparable.”

These lovebirds decided that an intimate, just-them elopement surrounded by the beauty of nature sounded like their speed, so they entrusted photographer Lynn Lewis Photography to document as well as coordinate the day. “Planning our elopement was completely stress-free,” Rebecca + Mikul remember.  “We truly went with the flow, and Lynn Lewis was an absolute dream to work with.”

There was plenty of poetic + romantic significance to Rebecca + Mikul’s choice to tie the knot at Glen Oaks Big Sur: “Big Sur has always been our haven—the place where the redwoods stand tall and the coastline unfolds in all its rugged beauty. It’s where we’ve had some of our deepest conversations and shared moments that truly define us as a couple.

“So when it came to our wedding, there was no question that we wanted to be surrounded by that same natural splendor.”

“The search for the perfect dress was all about finding something that captured the essence of how I feel when I’m with Mikul—light, graceful, and timeless,” Rebecca says. “The moment I slipped into the Selkie “In Bloom” bridal gown, I knew it was the one. The soft, flowing fabric and the way it moved with me made me feel as though I was floating, as if the dress itself was an extension of the natural beauty around us. It made me feel as if I was dancing on air, perfectly in sync with the magic of our day.”

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

There’s a moment that will forever be etched in our hearts—standing beneath the ancient redwoods, hand in hand, as the golden light filtered through the leaves. We felt the presence of the trees as silent witnesses to our vows, their roots deep in the earth, just as our love is deeply rooted in trust, respect, and shared dreams. As we looked into each other’s eyes, it was as if time stood still, and all that existed was the love we have for one another.

“We arrived in Big Sur a few days early, and in the spirit of adventure, stumbled upon the most beautiful new restaurant while having coffee there, called Solstice at the Village,” remembers the couple of how the celebration’s timeline unfolded. “When we mentioned that we were getting married the next day, the staff warmly invited us to return for dinner if we could make it, even though we weren’t sure if our day of adventuring would allow for it.”

“As our elopement day concluded, we found ourselves at the restaurant, and though we hadn’t made a reservation, it felt as if fate was leading us. We walked in, asked for a table for two, and were greeted with applause from the other patrons as we were seated at the most romantic table. The dinner was exquisite, and the staff, along with the chef, signed a menu for us, creating a keepsake of this magical night. Everything fell into place so effortlessly, as if the universe had aligned to make everything perfect for us. It was a night we’ll cherish forever.”

“Our elopement was a reflection of the journey we’ve taken together and the adventures still to come,” Rebecca + Mikul say. “The redwoods, with their strength and resilience, and the ever-changing ocean, remind us that love is both constant and dynamic.”

Congrats, you two! Here’s to fate bringing you together on the boardwalk. And here’s to your romantic roller skate elopement in the Redwoods! GWS wishes you all the best!
