Between their love of dark color palettes, muted purples, Japanese culture, and FASHUUN, a moody boho wedding was always in the cards for Larry + Sara. (Full disclosure: they didn’t particularly tell us they love fashion but, hello – we think it’s obvious.) They got married at Hubbard Inn in Chicago, a restaurant specializing in shared plates and unique cocktails, and called on Naturally Yours Events to plan the day! Here’s a little more behind the inspiration from Sara:
We got engaged in Japan and combined that inspiration with our love of a dark, moody vibe and a well-crafted cocktail. We wanted our party to be one that focused on family and friends, making the day a reason to congregate. The ceremony was short and to the point with handwritten vows and we also tied in some Jewish elements by including a glass breaking ceremony and dancing the horah. Our vendors were really the ones who made this all happen! Without them, we were just two people with ideas. They made us feel supported and were truly experts in their craft.
Speaking of experts, Megan Saul Photography was on hand to beautifully capture the day! Let’s take a look:
Color Love Story: Moody Mauves + Purples
This totally decadent bouquet is a first glimpse at the stunning pieces Becca Blue Flowers contributed to the day!
And the Groom Wore a Pink Floral Suit
We need a moment. SO rad!! We had to ask about Larry’s look and here’s what Sara told us:
Larry is not one for traditional men’s fashion, so it took him some time to find something he liked. The idea around the suit was to display his love of muted florals, high collars, and puffy cravats. The suit is from ASOS and he paired it with a vest from another suit. To get that “high collar” look, the shirt came from a steampunk/historical cosplay shop and the cravat came from Etsy.
PS: Love this look? We’ve got more grooms rockin’ floral suits here!
The First Look
Forever a favorite moment!
Moody Boho Wedding Party
LOVE all the textures and deep colors here to capture that moodiness!
Sara was already a fan of Rue De Seine‘s modern bohemian style. She was looking for something not so “on-the-nose” white that didn’t lack drama and the East gown definitely fit that bill!
The Ceremony
Becca Blue Flowers designed this massive floral installation at the alter to resemble a traditional Chuppah!
Two parts stand out to us. The moment when we both heard one another’s vows for the first time, as well as seeing our family and friends finally meet while dancing to good music – it was just everything we wanted.
Processional: Wedding party: “Pavane pour une infante défunte” (Orchestral) by Maurice Ravel | Bride: “Starálfur” by Vitamin String Quartet
Recessional: “What Is Love” by Haddaway
First Dance: “la Ritournelle” by Sebastian Teller
Cocktail Reception
S + L chose to have a cocktail-style reception so guests could mix and mingle (and dance!) with each other all night.
Don’t procrastinate. Figure out now what tasks are being done and divide them up fairly. A planner is 110% worth it, you will save money, countless hours of sleep, and some major headaches when you should be having fun. Some things going to go wrong and that’s ok! Nothing is perfect and that’s what keeps life exciting. Also, and this one is BIG, don’t do things just because it’s the norm. Really soul search, what do weddings symbolize for you, and why are you doing it. If you don’t do this I could see how the day could become a disappointment of trying to meet other people’s expectations.
How fun are these two? Love their moody boho wedding day — big congrats to you two from all of us at GWS!
