A 1970s Inspired Wedding in the Desert with a Killer Fringe Dress

Planning

Desert dreamin’ in Seventies style! Attention all you boho lovers out there, because this one’s about as good as they come. Kai + Greg styled their wedding day at The Lautner Compound around retro vibes and a monochrome color palette of amber tones and rusty hues. K, who owns the design and styling company, Gold Dust Collective, teamed up with event planners Fawn Events to create a stunning outdoor wedding day complete with a fringe wedding dress, neon signs, mid-century modern furniture and lots of DIY elements.

K shares:

With a love of mid-century design, 70’s colorways and retro music, we’ve always felt a bit like old souls. We wanted our wedding to hold an aesthetic reflective of those appreciations and our “vibe” to feel fun rather than formal. Retro but not too focused in one era of influence. The result was eclectic with warm desert tones, a bit of Stevie Nicks mystique and a whole lotta love. Our favorite lyrics were dispersed throughout the design from our neon sign, to my bridal robe and our fun matchbox favors. Every element came together in a way that felt like us and I still dream about this day in warm ambers.

Ashley M. Clayton (photographer AND bridesmaid!) was there to capture it all. Let’s take a look!

All in the Details

You can tell by all of the details that K knows how to style an event! There are two gorgeous details we want to point out from this shot. The first is K’s stunning yellow ring from Marrow Fine. The second is this invitation suite that she designed all by herself! It perfectly blends old and new with a groovy 70’s inspired font and modern geometric shapes.

K + G were surrounded by their friends and family as they promised forever, but they shared that the day really couldn’t have come together without help from all of these people! K shares how their wedding day team was filled with some of their closest loved ones:

My matron of Honor, an incredible floral designer created our stunning personals and crown for my hat. My bridesmaid Ashley was our amazing photographer alongside a second shooter. Our videographer, a close friend whom had filmed some of Greg’s greatest tricks back in the day. This wedding truly took a village and it was an unbelievable testament to what great friends and family we have.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

My sister-in-law Nancy officiated us in her true poetic fashion and made our ceremony all the more emotional. I will never forget how it felt to express our gratitude to one another and to feel that kind of love in front of our closest friends and family. We sat cuddled up in a love seat during dinner and under the glow of neon we both said we couldn’t believe this was our wedding day. Dinner allowed us pause and to hang on to each other while sharing sweet sentiments. We leaned back, took it all in and it truly felt surreal

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Do you, boo. Nothing is off limits anymore and making it feel like you and yours is all you need to worry about. We mixed 50’s with 70’s, bohemian with glam, tropical with the desert and it was a total dream. Work with people you vibe with, make it fun and try not to take it too seriously (lol, easier said than done!). And lastly, the trifecta: Good food, Open bar, Killer music – does. not. disappoint
