The Most Expensive Celebrity Wedding Cakes

Jack and Beyond, a bespoke luxury bakery based in Fulham, shared with us some of the most expensive celebrity wedding cakes, along with cake consultant Sophia Zimmer’s top tips on how to recreate them within your own budget.

Here are the some of the most extravagant and expensive celebrity wedding cakes we’ve seen take centre stage in recent years.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Wedding Cake

They may have abandoned a few royal norms so far, but splashing out on an expensive wedding cake was not one of them. What did stand out, however, was the unconventional style and flavour that they chose. Instead of the Windsor-approved fruit cake, the couple chose to embrace new wedding cake trends and chose a spring-inspired lemon and elderflower sponge, topped with fresh flowers and a rustic buttercream. Experts estimate that this cake would have cost approximately £2,900.

Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen

This Love Island couple spared no expense on their wedding, and opted for a seven-tier white wedding cake consisting of five different sponges; champagne, red velvet, vanilla, pecan and maple, and salted caramel. And, as if that wasn’t enough, the couple requested for it to be embellished with piped pearls, gold leaf, and sugar flowers What a mouthful — and enough to secure the Bowens a spot in the round up of most expensive celebrity wedding cakes. Jack and Beyond estimate that this cake, made by La Belle Cake Company, cost around £3,500.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

It comes as no surprise to learn that this couple chose an extravagant cake for their ceremony in 2014. The seven-foot vanilla and berry confection, decorated in gold leaf, certainly didn’t disappoint the glamorous guests. Experts estimate the cost of this cake to have been $6,800, or approximately £5,428.

Grace Kelly and Rainier III

This esteemed couple’s six-tier wedding cake was statuesque to say the least, and the decadence of this iced masterpiece speaks volumes about the people who made it – the chefs at the Monte-Carlo’s Hôtel de Paris! If that wasn’t enough to impress their guests, sat on top of this monumental cake was a musical box, with a revolving statue of the bride and groom, playing Ava Marie. Experts estimate that this cake would have cost about £10,000 in 1956, which today would be about £345,000!

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra

It’s difficult to describe Nick and Priyanka’s wedding as anything except ‘over the top’, particularly when it comes to the eighteen-foot wedding cake that towered over the happy couple. The cake itself boasted golden columns, little windows, and a miniature chandelier, and puts all of our childhood dollhouses to shame. This type of luxury doesn’t come cheap though, as the experts at Jack and Beyond reckon this celebrity wedding cake comes with a price tag of a whopping £15,000!

How to create a celebrity wedding cake without a celebrity budget

For the majority of us who don’t want to spend a small fortune on a wedding cake, Sophia Zimmer shares her insider advice on achieving a luxury design on a modest budget.

The taller the cake, the higher the price

Having dozens of layers or tiers will require more money to spend on ingredients, decorations, and time spent making it. If you’re concerned that a smaller cake won’t feed all of your guests, then order some additional cuttings. Or, order a bespoke amount of individual cakes to ensure that you only purchase what is necessary.

Frosting is your friend!

In our wedding cake guide for 2020, lightly frosted or ‘naked’ cakes are a growing trend, not just for their elegant and modern appearance, but also because they are significantly cheaper than more traditional decorations such as sugar paste or marzipan. Frosting can also be smoothed over or heavily textured, depending on your style.

Keep it simple

While the glitter of gold leaf, sugar flowers, and other adventurous embellishments might seem glamorous, in reality, all they do is add to the cost. Don’t compensate on the taste and quality of your cake for the decorative elements on top; instead, focus on creating a simple, delicious cake and opt for natural additions like fruit and flowers that won’t break the bank. Sometimes the simpler the cake, the more show-stopping the effect. Check out our pick of alternative weddings cakes for some more inspiration.

Speak to a wedding cake consultant

A good bakery should provide a consultant that will help you design your perfect wedding cake with your budget and priorities in mind. You can bring your ideas, colour schemes, and dietary requirements to the table, and ask your baker all manner of questions. Then let them get on with working out a budget-friendly way to create the perfect cake for your wedding.
