No matter if you’re hosting a wedding near or far, one thing makes it extra special- incorporating local culture, traditions and landscapes into the day. That’s exactly why we love this Vietnamese wedding inspiration that took place at Shilla Monogram Quang Nam Da Nang and featured real couple, Sue + Mattia. It’s the perfect blueprint on how to look around you for inspiration. Event Designers, The Planners, left no stone unturned when it came to honoring their Vietnamese setting. There were crystal geodes symbolizing beauty and healing. Textured flowers and ruffled linens gave nods to the beach town landscape. They even had handmade candleholders in the shape of local floating lanterns!
Given that the shoot takes place in a Vietnam beach city, we determined that it should carry the local charms. Localities made a crucial part in the creativity and in how we styled each and every detail. Sourcing local materials not only meant a lot to the shoot, saved our budget but also brought about astonishing effect to the whole picture.

Handwritten Invitations
Letters And Soul did the beautiful calligraphy work on the wedding invitations, signage, menus and place cards. Giving so much care to these details really heightens the handmade and sentimental feeling around the day.
S’s raw cut wedding ring is by Quartzaholic and it ties in perfectly with the gemstone and quartz theme that we see in the decor:
The Marble Mountains in Danang is a known gem mine. In Vietnam, it is assumed that natural gems & stones are only used for feng shui purposes as its healing power that helps to balance the body, mind, and spirit. On the other hand, we approached gems and stones simply at its best – its natural color and sparkle, how gems & stones bend the light into different directions.
Modern Vietnamese Wedding Decor
SM Flower Shop pushed the boundaries of traditional Asian wedding decor, and used a muted color palette of white, beige, brown and mauve. They also gave nod to the rugged shoreline by incorporating dried blooms and grasses.
Ceremony Time
S + M shared a significant and sentimental moment during the ceremony shoot:
Our couple was supposed to get married in October but had to postpone till next year since most of their friends and families could not fly to Vietnam due to Covid 19. We often made a joke that it was the Lord who gave them this little compensation.
Bold Vietnamese Wedding Dress
S looked effortlessly chic thanks to Baina Uchaeva, who designed her hair and makeup looks. M sported a tan suit by PAUL Bespoke Tailoring, which perfectly complemented the overall decor.
S’s Hacchic Couture gown pushed traditional Vietnamese wedding dress culture to the limits!
Instead of designing a new wedding dress, we decided to select the one in the outlet and restyle it. Originally, the dress that we chose was styled to be worn with a base plain gown. Instead, we chose to style it with a nude pair of undergarments to highlight her body curves and sophisticated embroidery details on the top of the dress.
Ocean Inspired Wedding Tablescapes
The delicate tabletop rentals were all sourced from Allgoodthings Rentals & Styling and were selected specifically to give nods to the beauty of the venue’s setting.
The first thing comes to one’s mind when talking about Danang is the beach with gentle waves. To illustrate the waves, we need something fluffy, wavy and layering. That’s how we brainstormed the idea to tailor the table runner by using 2 types of fabric and 3 different techniques to create the final effects.
One of the signature things of Hoi An is the colorful floating lanterns. This is a local charm that we want to add to the wedding. To match it with the monochrome palette, we chose handmade coconut paper as material and instead of simply cutting it to shape, we applied origami art to maximize the craftsmanship of the decorative items.
These handmade candleholders are such a fantastic detail and would double as the perfect guest favor!
Ocean meets marble in this Something Sweet wedding cake. It’s ties the overall look and feel of the decor together. We love seeing how much care went into sourcing local details for this Vietnamese wedding inspiration. We’d love to see more couples honor local cultures and traditions in their 2021 weddings!
