I love hydrangeas. Everybody loves hydrangeas. They are a gorgeous bloom, and they are really at the height of their season in the late spring and throughout the summer, which means that they are really abundant at that time of year and people love to use them for weddings because that’s when the height of the wedding season is. I love using them in centerpieces. When it comes to using them in a bouquet, I think that it absolutely can work, but you should be very cautious.

First of all, hydrangea are expensive. They can be costly and they don’t necessarily hold up as well as other blooms. They are a little bit delicate. Certainly, when it comes to conditions like a lot of sun, a lot of humidity, hydrangea don’t tend to do very well. So, particularly here on the East Coast, people who use hydrangea in July or in August and they’re gonna be having an outdoor wedding, say, at an inn or on a farm, it can be a little bit tricky to use hydrangea. So the advantages of using hydrangea are that they are gorgeous, they have a great impact.

You don’t need to use that many blooms and there are a nice range of colors of hydrangea. They have a really beautiful classic tailored look. On the other hand, you may risk having a bridal bouquet with some wilty blooms and, as skilled as your florist might be, there is only so much that you can control with hydrangea in terms of the temperature and the conditions. So it’s something to note when thinking about using hydrangea in a bridal bouquet.
