My name is Barbara Esses and I do events for a living. I’m Ruthie Hecht; I’m an event planner and I work with and for my mother. We’re going to teach you the do’s and don’ts for the perfect wedding. When choosing your wedding decor, make sure it looks like you. If your husband love blue, have a blue cocktail hour and if you love yellow, have a yellow party. You can incorporate flowers, candles, chandeliers, anything you can imagine into your wedding decor. Just make sure there’s nothing too cheesy. If it’s a personal touch, make sure everybody gets it. If you’re looking for a more traditional wedding, but want to put in your personal touch, do it in small places, like the escort card table, if you have one. Don’t be afraid to pour all your eggs in one basket. You can decide that you want the most beautiful ceremony that ever was and you don’t care about the rest of the night. That’s perfectly fine. Flowers are lovely, but the lighting is most important. You want your room to feel warm and inviting, white light, amber light, and even fuchsia. Stay away from green. No one looks good in it. Tables can have huge arrangements. It’s great when they have some style, but don’t forget, decor extends throughout the room. Tall centerpieces can be absolutely beautiful, but make sure they don’t obstruct people’s views. Your guests want to be able to see the person at the other end of the table. Some guests will pick flowers out of your center piece by the end of the night, but don’t worry about that. You don’t need the flowers anymore. Just in case you think some of your guests will run off with the vases at the end of the night, check with your florist in advance and see how much they cost. About twenty to thirty percent of your budget will go towards decor. It’s not about just having pretty things, but creates a warm and inviting experience for all of your guests. You can definitely have a flowerless wedding, but don’t skip the candles. They are crucial. Candlelight, candlelight everywhere you can have it. Lighting is always something you should think about. One candle with the light shining on it will have much more wow than fifty flowers with no light at all. Hopefully your florist or venue has an in house lighting person. That’s ideal, but if not there are some great local lighting companies that’ll come and pin spot your tables and up light your ceremony. Some venues provide table clothes, some florists own them, but usually there’s a local place you can rent them. Just remember there’s no need for them to match the carpeting. So those are some tips on wedding decor. Just make sure, keep the lighting.
