Kaypee + Max’s retro-inspired woodland wedding combined all of the warm and earthy tones of the 1970’s with tons of plant life and floral patterns to create a dreamy “vintage wonderland.”
South Congress Hotel in Austin, Texas was *the* spot for these two to tie the knot because its modern, lowlight vibe served as the perfectly complementary backdrop for their moody, vintage design vision and because the couple had their very first date just down the street!
Event designers from Bianca Nichole & Co helped Kaypee + Max realize their dream wedding aesthetic, folding wood elements and greenery in with warm, 70’s colors and handcrafted details (that the bride made herself!!) for a cozy vintage vibe.
We are loving the photos that Kirsten Holliday Photography snapped of Kaybee + Max’s big day. Let’s take a look!!
The Ceremony
Warm wood guest seating from Loot Rentals introduced the cozy, retro vibes into the South Congress Hotel’s mostly modern and minimalistic event space. Love the way that the interior brick added just a little bit of mid-century magic.
That greenery climbing up the ceremony arch!! “We like to call it a ‘Vintage Wonderland,’” the couple says how they coined the term for their wedding day design aesthetic, “because the space felt as though one had stepped back into the 70s as well as simultaneously being in a woodland.”
Kaypee spent over a year making the details of this ceremony arch by hand!!
Kaypee says that having handmade pieces of her wedding to take home and cherish forever made all of the hours of work totally worth it. She also says that commitment and patience are two key parts of doing stitch-work and that cross stitching pieces for the wedding was a symbolic nod to the importance of those qualities in a marriage.
Snag some custom wedding cross stitch DIY kits & patterns if you like the idea of your wedding day featuring some of your own handiwork.
Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding Max: I enjoyed taking pictures around South Congress Avenue, our first look, reading vows, listening to voice messages on the audio guestbook, and dancing.
Kaypee: I cherished marrying my best friend, reading vows to Max, my dad walking her down the aisle after a challenging health journey, the first dance to our favorite song, and singing with friends. The day was filled with love, joy, and cherished moments.
One of our fave parts of Kaypee + Max’s unique wedding aesthetic is the fact that the team from Bianca Nichole & Co incorporated color blocking with greens oranges reds and yellows as an homage to the way Kaypee + Max decorate their own home.
The warm wood guest seating that Loot Rentals used for the ceremony transitioned perfectly into the vintage-inspired vibe of the reception setup.
Table Manners outfitted the reception tables with earthy textiles and and retro colored glassware that felt so perfectly rustic and retro alongside the greenery-filled centerpieces.
You would be absolutely correct if you guessed that Kaypee handmade these cross stitched table numbers as well!
Grab a set of Acacia wooden charger plates from Williams Sonoma to create a warm, 70’s tablescape of your own.
Kaypee + Max totally nailed the guest book situation by using After The Tone, and audio guest book service that lets your friends and fam leave voice messages for you on a super cute vintage telephone!
We are SO IN LOVE with Kaypee’s short, 70’s-inspired reception dress!! The button details! The high neckline! The bishop sleeves! 😍
