12. Desert Soul Romantic Airbnb | Pioneertown, California
Named the coolest stay in California by Condé Nast, there’s an otherworldly quality to this secluded desert home. Set on ten acres of wilderness in the Mojave Desert, the enchantment begins the moment you turn onto the private dirt road. Maybe it’s the mystical theatre of boulders that surround the all-white structure, or perhaps it’s the clear blue of the vast sky overhead, but either way, it’s the kind of place you can never forget. We’d describe it as high design in the wild desert.
There are floor-to-ceiling sliders in every room (apart from the bathrooms) framing magical views, and furniture by iconic designers like Christian Liagre as well as one-of-a-kind artworks and Moroccan rugs. While you’re just a short drive from the bars and shops of Pioneertown, we’ll wager that once this sanctuary has cast its spell, you’ll never want to leave. Wake up early for an incredible sunrise, walk through the boulders seeking serenity, take a dip in the outdoor tin bath, and stay up late counting stars in the hot tub or round the fire pit. During Milky Way season (March to September), the sky is filled with fire and light and it can almost feel like the cosmos has dropped in for a conversation.

17. The Bloomhouse Unique Fairy Tale Getaway | Austin, Texas
Looking for a romantic trip that’s totally unique? The Bloomhouse is it. A celebration of all things magical and mystical, this home hardly features a straight line and will send you into another world that is so perfectly Austin. This magical work of art is part Willy Wonka, part Big Lebowski, and totally unlike anywhere else. Do it for the ‘gram, but also for your soul.
18. The Edge | Catskills, New York
This NYT-featured Catskills home is not quite the cabin it seems to be. What looks like a single-story home from one angle is actually built over a creekside slope, and we think it’s one of the most interesting places we’ve seen for a romantic stay in the woods. Floor-to-ceiling windows make full use of the region’s scenery, and sliding doors out onto a deck mean you can practically reach out and touch the pines – you can even listen to the rushing waters of the creek from here.
Modern and stylish, the design here isn’t trying to outshine the views, with wood floors, white walls and a Scandi feel to its furnishings. Two of the bedrooms are on the top floor and have such great views across the canopy you’ll think you’re staying in a treehouse! If you can manage to leave the home, head out on hikes, explore the nearby farm shops, or book a meal at a local restaurant – there are several within a short drive. But we recommend making your way to the home’s little campfire site, with some hot chocolate and marshmallows, for an evening you’ll never forget.
19. Daydream Montage | Joshua Tree, California
This modern home is super close to the entrance of Joshua Tree National Park. It’s the perfect place for a couple hoping to escape reality for a while in this dreamy location. The striking exterior is all about clean lines and contemporary cool, set in newly landscaped gardens and screened from your neighbors to either side by a privacy fence. It’s out here that you’ll no doubt spend much of your time – on the impressive covered terrace, where you’ll find a comfy seating area and dining table, or out on the sun loungers facing the mountains.
Hop in your private hot tub, cook up a romantic dinner for two on the barbecue, or sit around the fire pit until the stars come out. The interiors here are both clever and playful, with windows all around and dashes of pastel color. We love the open living space, with its wall of shelves, well-equipped retro kitchen, and sociable breakfast bar. And just when you think it couldn’t get any cuter, the cozy bedrooms and stylish bathrooms are the cherry on top.

21. The 1968 cabin | The Hamptons, New York
This unusual timber cottage in the woods embraces the unexpected with more angles than a math lecture and more wooden slats than the surrounding trees. It truly captivates us even when we just glance at it.
This lovingly renovated home, which was completed in the late 2010s, has a lot of character. The “owl eye” windows are a novel way to design windowpanes, and the hipped roofline that extends from the top of the house to the front door adds to the building’s distinctive design. You’re totally secluded which, in bustling East Hampton, is a pretty difficult find. The interior embraces the woods vibe with cedar walls and hardwood floors, making it practically a tree in and of itself. Yet, this “upside down” house has a colorful personality of its own. We have this gem on our bucketlist for sure!
22. Bryant Barn + Wine Barrel Bedroom | Walla Walla East, Washington
This fun pool house in Washington features something totally unexpected — a giant wine barrel totally outfitted with a bed! Why not? Enjoy the private pool and fire pit for a fun + uniquely romantic stay.

From the Catskills to Zion and Yosemite to Asheville, we love how they blend the traditional outdoor experience with the service and design-forward thinking of a boutique hotel. The perfect romantic getaway with your love!
24. Desert Saga | Joshua Tree National Park, California
When architect, Malek Alqadi combined astute environmentalism with his exquisite taste, he didn’t just create this home, he sparked a revolution in sustainable tourism. Set on the edge of the Joshua Tree National Park, the two of you can indulge in stargazing sessions through a telescope, showering by a boulder, and falling asleep under the desert sky with a crackling fireplace at your feet — the second bedroom is open to the elements, with no walls or ceiling.
