The Bride Wore a Red Dress for This Festive Night Market-Inspired Wedding Reception

Planning

Yundi + Gary first laid eyes on each other at the famous Richmond Night Market where tons of vendors come from all over the Vancouver, BC area to set up stalls in the summertime and sell every kind of tasty bite imaginable amidst the festive colors and crowds.

For these two, saying “I do” was the perfect opportunity to relive the romance of their first encounter by creating their very own night market-inspired wedding reception. With the help of planners + event designers from Wednesday Wedding Co., Yundi + Gary filled the open air spaces at Swallowfield Farm with food stalls offering different delicious dishes to guests. There was live music. There was a bouncy castle. There was a show-stopping outfit change for the bride into a breathtaking red reception dress.

Tastes, sounds, smells, excitement, and the memory of Yundi + Gary’s very first meeting ❤️ We can’t get enough of this festive + creative celebration, and we’re SO glad Johny Yoo was there snapping these gorgeous photos so we can give you all a peek!

A Sunny Outdoor Ceremony

La Bomba is the floral design mind behind the day’s festive + romantic blooms. So into these greenery-filled ceremony floral towers they created and the bold primary color palette of reds, blues, and yellows that they used throughout the day!

We love to see a couple embrace new traditions and walk down the aisle together!

Our Musical Choices

Processional: "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion (live performance on saxophone and piano)

Recessional: "Kamogawa Walk" by A Hidden Trace

First Dance: We didn't have one! Instead, we chose to sing a song. Both of us are big fans of Friends we sang the song “Wonderful Tonight” that Monica and Chandler danced to on the night of their proposal.

Actually, the most difficult part of wedding preparation for me was finding the wedding dress,” says Yundi of the tight timeline that led her to this elegant strapless bridal look. This one was a real nail-biter.

“In April, while traveling to the United States, I ordered my dream wedding dress, expecting it to be delivered by mid-June. However, when June arrived, the dress had not been received. With no time to reorder, I decided to purchase a similar dress from a Chinese online shopping site and shipped it here by air. The new dress arrived just three weeks before the wedding, with several adjustments needed. Fortunately, I found an excellent tailor in Vancouver who removed and redesigned the dress’s train. I only received the final dress two days before the wedding, but luckily, it turned out to be exactly what I liked.”

Let the Celebration Begin!

Yundi + Gary invited the band Branch 291 (who happen to be super talented friends of the bride + groom) to get the celebrations started with a private concert.

Johnny’s Pops was on hand to help guests beat the summer heat with some cool treats.

We can practically smell the delicious Chinese Barbecue.
