Married in Morocco: How to Do a Desert Destination Wedding Right

Planning

What would you think of a destination celebration somewhere that feels romantic + remote? Somewhere stunning with sun-drenched days and starry nights? Somewhere surrounded by rolling hills of sand?

Welcome to your desert wedding dreams.

Love, Asha Photography was the genius behind the camera who—along with an unstoppable team of talented vendors including event designer AMV Weddings —created a gorgeous editorial shoot at Agafay Desert Luxury Camp, just 45 minutes into the desert hills outside of Marrakech, Morocco.

The wedding experience that this crew assembled was earthy, airy, elegant boho magic. And we want to help you recreate it!

Here are our six tips for visualizing your own dreamy desert wedding!

1. Embrace An Earthy Desert Color Palette

This light neutral + blush wedding invitation suite by Laura Elizabeth Patrick totally captured the dusty + romantic feel of the desert scenery surrounding Agafay. If you’re heading into the desert for your big day, don’t be afraid to embrace the off-whites, beiges, and sand-tones of your location’s color world when choosing your palette!

Also, a round of applause for Sophie Kaye’s beautiful flat lay design!

2. Fall In Love With The Landscape

Sandy, arid soil. A hilly horizon. Bright blue skies. Start thinking about how the details you include on the day can compliment the breathtaking desert landscape. This romantic blush + ivory floral tulle overlay wedding gown from Anna Kara is the perfect balance for the harsher, earthier aspects of the location.

Photographer Asha reflect: “Anna Kara designs gowns for bold women who dare to follow their own path and embrace their femininity and the beauty of authenticity. The delicate gown chosen for this shoot combines modern romanticism with a daring boho style. The magic and mystery of the Moroccan Desert are reflected in the whimsical sleeves while the embroidery ties in natural elements exquisitely.”

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

One of our favorite memories of the day was interacting with and riding the camels in the desert. It was truly the thrill of a lifetime.

Going for lighter neutral tones and avoiding dark or vibrant colors means no distractions from the beauty of the natural landscape!

Wedding earrings from Jonida Ripani were a subtle way even more delicate floral flair to the bridal vibe.

4. Make Your Own Oasis

Flowers are your chance to turn up the magic at a desert wedding. Since nothing usually blooms in the sun-bleached sand, lush ceremony florals like these greenery filled arrangements from The Bloom Room create a totally uncanny + otherworldly experience.

Natural wood guest seating like these white-cushioned chairs from Chabi Chic Morocco embrace the organic, far-removed feel of a desert wedding.

The Bloom Room combined color and texture to craft an alluring desert oasis sprung up from nowhere as if in a dream,” remembers photographer Asha. “Shades of peach, cream, and coral accentuated the vast rolling dunes and recall the colors of the desert sunset.”

“Delight your guests with a walk through a floral meadow in an otherwise desolate landscape.”

Patterns definitely aren’t off the table for a desert wedding! We love the way the floral off-white + ivory motifs of Abi’s wedding gown were echoed in these delicate yet ornate table linens from Nüage Designs.

Even though light + neutral tones are the overall way to go, color isn’t off limits! Textured dinnerware from Maison Klarabelle provided a gentle pop of peach.

6. Connect With Culture

Destination weddings call for curiosity, respect, and enthusiasm for your location’s local culture. We love the way this shoot incorporated local traditional musicians to give guests a cultural context for the celebration and support the community’s artists.
