“We kept a lot of little memento’s from our wedding day which we brought back and sprinkled throughout our welcome table mixed in with albums and photos from our beautiful story of life so far,” Ash + Jake say.

“We took dried herbs from our original wedding and turned them into bath soaks for our guests. We continued with our same theme of astrology from our wedding day.”

“We also originally gave cd’s (wut!) to our guests at our wedding so we shared it as a playlist for everyone to drive up the mountain too.”

The kiddos in attendance had lots of fun crafts + activities so they could celebrate the solstice. ️

A First Look With Dad

“For her first look with her dad, the bride arranged a fleet of vintage cars to serve as a stunning backdrop,” says Yael Friedman from Galia Lahav. “While it made for unforgettable photos, the true intention was to honor their cherished memories of car shows and the deep bond they have built for classic cars over the years. This meaningful gesture was an emotional moment for the bride and dad due to his current year-long battle with stage three cancer.”

The Guests Arrive

“…which also served as the dress train for a live performer welcoming guests on stilts!”

“Guests were encouraged to dress on theme: floor-length gowns, dark & moody colors, bold accessories, shoulder pads, feathers, and more,” Yael says.

A Seaside Ceremony

There’s just something so stunning about simplicity when it comes to color. These all-ivory aisle-lining floral arrangements are just beyond beautiful!

For the ceremony Kristina added a voluminous off-white detachable train to her white lace Galia Lahav gown, creating a chic two-tone effect.

To put the celebration on-par with likes of iconic events like The Met Gala, Kristina + Michael cleverly nicknamed their big day “The ROW” — short for “The Rosecliff O’Connor Wedding.”

This inventive + interactive drink wall by Ryan Designs was just the beginning of the reception’s many surprises. “Guests rang a bell to choose between an Espresso Martini or Tequila Spritz, had their portraits painted by a live watercolor artist, savored fresh oysters from a raw bar as well as left voicemails for the bride and groom,” recalls Yael.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding
The most unforgettable moment of our wedding day was when Elvis quite literally crashed our ceremony!
Picture this: We're in the middle of our beachside vows, the gentle waves providing a serene backdrop. Suddenly, we hear a booming "Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen!" in the most spot-on Elvis impression. Everyone dramatically turns around, jaws dropping in shock and amusement.
There he was, the King himself (or at least a very convincing impersonator), strutting up the beach in all his jumpsuited glory. Without missing a beat, he takes over the ceremony, much to our delight and our guests' absolute hysteria. It was completely unexpected and perfectly captured the fun, carefree spirit we wanted for our day.
But the Elvis excitement didn't stop there. After the ceremony, the beach transformed into a dance floor, with the King leading the charge. One of my favorite memories is dancing with my new husband and our friends and family as Elvis belted out "Blue Suede Shoes." Seeing everyone, young and old, kicking up sand and laughing together under the California sun was pure magic.
This surprise Elvis appearance and the joyous dancing that followed encapsulated everything we wanted our wedding to be – full of laughter, surprises, and unforgettable moments shared with our loved ones. It was the perfect blend of romantic and ridiculous, just like us!

“Our journey to having Elvis as our wedding officiant is a perfect example of how Joel and I approach life – with spontaneity, humor, and a shared love for music!” says Anna. “It all started one night when we were doing what we love best: exploring live music videos online. We stumbled across a performance by James Kruk, an incredibly talented Elvis impersonator, with his band. The energy was infectious, and before we knew it, we were dancing around our bedroom, completely caught up in the music.”

“As the video ended and we caught our breath, I turned to Joel and jokingly said, ‘What if he officiated our wedding?’ I expected a laugh or maybe a playful eye roll. Instead, Joel looked at me with that spark in his eye that I’ve come to recognize as his ‘let’s do something crazy’ look, and very seriously said, ‘I’m in!’”

“That moment perfectly encapsulates our relationship. We’re always ready to take a fun idea and run with it, especially when it comes to music. Live performances have been a huge part of our lives together, so having a performer like James as our officiant felt like a natural extension of who we are as a couple.”

“From that point on, it was full steam ahead. We reached out to James, worked out the details, and kept it as a surprise for our guests. The result was even better than we could have imagined – not only did we get an amazing officiant, but we also got an unforgettable performance that had everyone dancing on the beach!”

“Looking back, what started as a joke became one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. It brought an element of surprise, fun, and pure joy to our ceremony that perfectly reflected our personalities and our love story. Plus, how many couples can say they were serenaded by the King himself as they said their vows?”

The Reception

Bliss Beach created the idyllic beach umbrella setup that served as Anna + Joel’s seaside venue. “We kept it casual with a margarita day party and aesthetic brunch setup,” the couple remembers. “Some folks danced, others napped in the sun. It was perfect.”

We are completely dazzled by Anna’s sparkly reception dress. “From the start, I knew I wanted to break away from the traditional wedding dress mold,” Anna says. “But finding the right fit for my vision and my body? That was quite the adventure!”

“Initially, trying on wedding gowns felt incredibly daunting. The pressure of finding “the one” in big stores with sample sizes that didn’t quite fit my curvy figure left me feeling self-conscious and overwhelmed.”

“Everything changed when I stepped into En Blanc in Santa Monica. There, I fell head over heels for the Cher dress by Flora. It was love at first sight! Slipping into that mini dress felt like becoming a walking disco ball – exactly the vibe I was going for. It was perfect for dancing the day away and adding that extra sparkle to our celebration.”

Anna + Joel included both American and Swiss vibes in their cultural considerations throughout the day. And as a nod to Joel’s Swiss roots the best man surprised them with Alphorn players during his speech! “Hilarious and so unexpected!” the couple says.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now
Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, but remember - it's YOUR day! Here's some advice based on our experience:
Break the Traditional Mold: Don't feel bound by wedding traditions. We're morning people, so we had a morning ceremony followed by a day party. It was perfect for us! Think about what truly reflects you as a couple and build your day around that.
Simplify Where You Can: Keeping things simple can reduce stress and often leads to a more enjoyable experience for everyone. We hired a day-of coordinator from Mostest. It was much less expensive than a full wedding planner but still gave us the support we needed.Also, the menu doesn’t have to be fancy (unless you want it to be): Our caterer provided sandwiches, fruits, veggies, dips, and snacks. It was a hit! We received tons of compliments on the food. Remember, it doesn't have to be fancy to be delicious and memorable.
Prioritize Time Together: Make sure to carve out moments to spend with your partner during the wedding. Check in with each other, dance together, and soak in the joy of your special day.
Stay True to Yourselves: You can't please everyone, so focus on what makes you happy as a couple. This is your day to celebrate your love and commitment.
Provide Entertainment Options: Having various activities can make a big difference. We created bingo cards for guests to mingle. We also set up cornhole and beach games. These turned out to be lifesavers for guests with kids or those who didn't know many people. It gave everyone something fun to do and helped break the ice.
If you're struggling with the traditional wedding dress shopping experience, don't be afraid to think outside the box. Whether it's a non-traditional style like my disco ball dress or going the custom route for a perfect fit, remember that your wedding dress should be a reflection of you. When you find the right one(s), trust me, you'll feel it!
Final Thoughts: Remember, your wedding should be a reflection of you as a couple. Don't be afraid to break the rules, think outside the box, and create a day that truly represents your love story. The most important thing is that you and your partner enjoy yourselves and create beautiful memories together.

“As the bride I found wedding planning super stressful,” Anna candidly shares. “I wish I could have relaxed and remembered that it was going to be magical no matter what because everyone I loved was there.”

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding
Looking back on the day, both Sam and Bella especially cherish their vow exchange. The couple exchanged vows privately, after their first look, with just the two of them. It was a moment where all of the nerves of the day completely melted away as they were able to be themselves together, and share the special moments over the last 10 years that brought them to this day.

These bouquets have us actually speechless. And, not only did Bella’s mom create the day’s arrangements, she also grew many of the flowers herself, too! “Florals were sourced by the MOB through local farms, her own garden, and foraged in surrounding woodlands,” says the couple.

“I wanted to highlight the beautiful fall landscape colors, and so I asked the bridesmaids to wear shades of olive green, gold, and brown,” remembers Bella. “With a mixed and matched palette, the bridesmaid dresses contributed to the autumnal and nature themes, while elevating the look with a variety of dresses that included sequins, silks, and ruffles.”

Sam scored his sophisticated black wedding tuxedo from Ventresca Ltd. and went with classic tuxes for his groomsmen’s suits, too.

“I found my dress during my very first dress shopping appointment, and although I didn’t purchase it on that day, I eventually came back, knowing the dress would be perfect for the big day,” Bella says of her elegant + feminine Martina Liana gown from La Belle Mariée. “I knew I wanted a mermaid fit with a dramatic, long train, but the dress’s romantic ruffle along the bust and 3D florals are what sold me on the dress.”

“Another must for me was a dress that wasn’t stark white,” Bella says. “I was looking for a softer tone of ivory, with shades of beige or rose, to add to the romantic, ethereal feeling of the day.”

Let’s hear it for the reception dress!! Loving that Bella included a glam-yet-sophisticated drapey scarf to match!

Bella says the switch into a short wedding dress with lots of movement was “essential for the dance floor!” where Elegant Music Group kept the tunes coming all evening long.

“Another highlight of the day was definitely the after party,” the couple remembers. “With the venue, we were able to book out the entire property, so we had full access to the venue and hotel amenities. Both the wedding  space and the hotel on property have beautiful outdoor spaces, fit with several fire pits. Once the wedding ended, they kept the night going – first at the bar with late night bites, and  then later moved the guests to the hotel patio area. The fire pits and fall weather made for the perfect after party where we kept the celebrations going into the early hours of the morning with cocktails and s’mores.”

Our Advice To Those Planning Now
Include friends, family, and loved ones if you’re able to. It makes the entire experience feel like such a group project, and everyone is able to enjoy the day even more if they are involved. We truly felt overwhelmed with all of the love and support that we got from our family and friends leading up to our big day.

“I found my dress at Grace Loves Lace in downtown San Diego, CA,” remembers Colleen. “The space was gorgeous—stained glass windows even! They were playing some Parent Trap faves, I remember, and the whole vibe was so fun. I went with my mom, my brother, and my brother’s boyfriend. We started there, and I didn’t quite know what my “perfect dress” was, but the person who helped me was amazing. She actually was the one who picked out my dress, and sure enough, it was the one.”

“I put it on and instantly felt like it was made for me. It felt unique and different, and I felt so many things in it—cute, sexy, authentically me, comfortable. My older sister, Katie, was also on FaceTime during each dress fitting (because she lives in Wisconsin). I went to three different places and ultimately decided on GLL the following day or two after.”

The Ceremony

There’s something so special about the fact that the bride’s brother Emerson Ricard was there to make it official for the happy couple.

“While my mom was working on her stained glass projects for the wedding (she’s the best), the stained glass arch idea was born,” says Colleen. “I had been making stained glass projects, two of which Garrett created irregular-shaped wooden frames for. I think this was ultimately where he came up with the idea to incorporate glass into the arch. Originally, he planned to create our altar/arch himself. He drew up a rough sketch of his idea, I drew up the shapes for the glass, and then we got to it.”

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding
We both thought our ceremony was most memorable. We walked in together (processional) and out together as newlyweds (recessional). It was so special. Colleen's little brother officiated, which meant the world to us. Seeing all of our friends and family, the sunshine/warmth we felt, our arch project at the end with the lake background—it was glimmer after glimmer. 

“Something to note about the arch is that it wasn’t fully assembled until the morning of the wedding. Each individual section still needed to be officially screwed together,” Colleen remembers. “Garrett stayed at the ranch with some buddies, and I stayed at our house the night before. He called me the morning of to see if it was okay for them to assemble it, which I said, ‘Of course,’ but he wanted to check with me, which I thought was so sweet since it was “our” project…”

“When I drove into the ranch later that morning, I immediately started bawling when I saw Garrett and his buddies standing in front of the arch after finishing the assembly. That moment was a big one for me. I stopped my car in the driveway, and Garrett held me for a little bit. Getting married later that day really clicked for me in that moment. It was actually happening!!”

“I just felt so excited and lucky to be marrying Garrett. It may sound silly, but there was a lot of work that went into that project, and so much love…I guess you would call it a true labor of love. Also, all of our friends and family who helped us—it was unreal.”

The Reception

“I can’t remember who thought of the stained glass candle holders and the table signs, me or my mom, but my mom was game,” says Colleen of the incredibly talented MOB, Lynne Ricard. “She’s amazing and created all of the stained glass candle holders, table signs, and the seating chart. Once we figured those details out, it was a colorful, stained glass Wonderland.”

Our Advice To Those Planning Now
From the bride: "Make this day about YOUR & YOUR PARTNER’S LOVE. This is probably very common advice at this point, but it’s so important.
If you think it’s impossible, or maybe it won’t work, or it’s too much, question it… try it out if you can… talk to each other and make it your own. But also, if you’re like, “All of this is too much, I don’t like planning, and I want to do as minimal as possible,” do that! Do what is comfortable.
If you need help or support, ask respectfully. For example, I asked literally every member of my family for help, and they were happy to contribute (as far as I know). And they actually gave off that energy—like they were excited about it! One of my dear friends offered to help with flowers, and I said, “Yes, please.” I am so grateful to each of our friends and family who supported us in any way they could, and I don’t regret asking for or accepting their support. It was well worth it.
Take breaks, go outside your comfort zone if you want to, take deep breaths, FaceTime your sister who lives in Wisconsin all the time, and ask your sibling to officiate. Do what is authentic to you both.
Bring in your strengths and passions, know your glows and grows.
Don’t worry about traditions, OR do all of the traditions because you enjoy them… it’s your day, and you are going to LOVE IT. Your people are going to love it, too.
On the day of—let it go and soak it in. Everyone told me this, and it really does fly by.
ALSO, you don’t have to invite everyone—we couldn’t afford it, and we didn’t. We invited the people we wanted there and who have celebrated our love from the get-go—those are the people you want there.
Do your processional/walk into your ceremony together if it feels authentic to you—THIS is still such a special memory for us, and countless people at our wedding told us the same."

“I knew I wanted to make something to wear for the Friday,” remembers artistic bride Ivy. “To suit our beautiful outdoor venue, I decided that I would make a cloak instead of a veil out of the most beautiful crewel embroidered fabric.”

“Textiles have always been a really important aspect of my artistic practice,” Ivy says, “but it was hard keeping it a secret from Chris as it took me a full week to make!”

Chris’s earthy green wedding suit was a perfect choice for the setting. “I am 5’3” and thus, buying clothes off the rack is exceedingly difficult, even more difficult for a suit,” Chris shares. “I found a suit by Moss Bros that I loved: sage green Herringbone! Perfect. But the fit was more difficult. The wonderful sales assistant told me that they do a ‘made to order’ suit where the entire suit is made to your measurements and then finished by a local tailor. I was able to pick out the lining, thread colours and personalisation on the inside of the jacket. I chose to have our names and wedding date sewn into the lining.”

“Ivy and Chris are the blueprint for love,” says photographer Scarlett Cook. “Their adoration for each other shines through these photos.”

Pure joy 🥰

“To feel more connected to the earth, Ivy walked down the aisle barefoot,” Scarlett says. “Her feet were laced with handmade jewellery, and she explained to me how being barefoot always made her feel more grounded.”

“Our Saturday ceremony was a handfasting ceremony performed by Ivy’s mama, our biggest supporter throughout our relationship,” remember Ivy + Chris.

We love the story of how Ivy found her flowy-sleeved wedding gown: “I had had what I thought was my dream wedding dress on my Pinterest board before I even met Chris… however when I got the chance to try it on, it simply wasn’t right.”

“I always knew I wanted to be barefoot for as much of the day as possible, and that flowers and crystals in my hair were a nonnegotiable- but after that moment, I couldn’t envision what I would actually wear. But then I stumbled across Indie Bride London, where the owner, Miina, designs and hand makes all of the dresses with comfort at the forefront. “Pixie” was the first dress of Miina’s that I tried on, and I just gasped. I knew the second I put it on.”

“I have never been the most confident person, so I didn’t really think that I would have that properly breathtaking “this is the one” moment. But I did! The feeling was exactly the same feeling as falling in love with Chris; yes, I was excited and had butterflies, but the overriding feeling was one of coming home. The dress already felt like mine. And then came the coloured veil ~ it was just meant to be!”

The Reception

Ivy + Chris organized their wedding reception seating chart with tables named for meaningful places the couple has visited throughout their love story. 

On top of decor hand crafted by Ivy made (like these colorful textile garlands), the couple’s reception was full of unforgettable elements. The guest book was a canvas that everybody painted, they played a guest bingo wedding game so that everyone could get to know each other, and they had individually chosen tarot card place names for each guest.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now
Chris: "Getting engaged is one of the most exciting moments of your life - and suddenly the idea of planning the entire wedding can become a daunting task, especially if you’re planning it yourselves without the help of a wedding planner. My advice is to take it slow, one step at a time and enjoy it. You can budget on the small things like having your own wedding playlist instead of a live band and baking your own cake (or biscuits in our case). And in the most stressful moments, remember that your wedding is just one day, marriage is for the rest of your life. Cherish it.
Ivy: "Enjoy every bit of it! Planning a wedding is so unbelievably stressful- but try to enjoy that stress! I know it’s what everyone says, but it really does just go so quickly ~ but this is the only time you’ll ever just be each others fiancé, the only time you’ll plan your wedding; relish in it!"
But most importantly ~ the day is yours. It is about your story, your love, your life together. Never leave each other’s side on the day. The only thing that truly matters is that you love each other, and that you have an entire day that is dedicated solely to that love; how beautiful is that?! I know it may seem like the world, but if the wrong songs plays, or if the decorations are on the wrong table, or if someone forgets something, ultimately none of that matters. They will not be the things you cling to when you are old and wrinkly."

The couple’s guests were treated to a feast by Funnells Kitchen at tables adorned with twinkly fairy lights and mismatched bud vases.

We really can’t get over the flower-filled bridal hairstyle that Ashley Kay Beauty created for Ivy. “Ash and I had the most simple exchange on the Saturday morning: “Abundance?” “Abundance.” And that was how she came up with my hair design!” Ivy says.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding
This is a difficult one. Our first most memorable moment was Ivy’s twin brother James, who was also Chris’ best man surprising us with a personal second dance. Ivy’s favourite musical artist is Megan Dixon, and James had secretly asked her if she might record us a version of the song ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ by The Script. We danced to this away from all our guests, tucked away in the woods. It was such a perfect, intimate, grounding moment that made us slow down and appreciate the day. We will remember it for the rest of our life.
Our second most memorable moment was our last dance. Instead of a slow and romantic last dance, we chose to belt ‘Patricia The Stripper’ by Chris de Burgh at the top of our lungs. Utter perfection. 

Some final thoughts from these beautiful newlyweds: “They always say your wedding day goes so fast, and we didn’t quite believe it until we were waving our guests goodbye and heading off for the night. Enjoy every moment, and plan to have a moment of reflection, whether it be a photography golden hour, or a walk round the grounds just the two of you. Take a moment for yourself; you won’t regret it.”
